Protein Production Purification and
Characterization Units

The Protein Expression Facility

The facility functions as a training center for scientists in gene cloning and protein production. We assist in the implementation of novel, state of the art techniques, otherwise too costly and laborious for individual laboratories at the university. We offer assistance and information to all research laboratories at the Hebrew University, at other universities and at biotech companies.

The facility specializes in four major expression systems: bacterial, insect and mammalian cells and in-vitro translation. These systems supply the expression and modification requirements for a wide variety of proteins. Proteins can be expressed in their native form or designed with various tags and fusion additives for purification and characterization uses.

Bioinformatics Unit

The Info-CORE Bioinformatics support unit was established in 2013 to address the growing needs for bioinformatics analysis of research groups.
Info-CORE focuses and has acquired an extensive experience in initial analysis of data from applications of the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology, as well as in advanced analysis of data from NGS and other High throughput (HTP) platforms such as Proteomics, Metabolomics, NanoString etc, including data integration, networks analysis and visualization. The number of new cutting edge NGS applications and other HTP platforms studied at our unit is continuously growing. The unit also provides programming services including programming graphic interface for computational tools, and enjoys the benefits of the powerful HURCS cluster, with a large storage and memory, for efficient computation. Info-CORE supplies other research activities such as consultation in designing sequencing experiments, writing papers, research grants and proposals and guiding students.

ELSC Vector Core Facility

The ELSC Vector Core Facility (EVCF) is a state-of-the-art core technology and research center for the design and manufacture of viral vectors, which have become an essential research tool for experimental neuroscience. The EVCF supports the brain research community by providing high-quality viral vectors, individually designed to meet the challenges and specific requirements of this rapidly evolving field of neuroscience.

The EVCF is engaged in numerous ELSC-affiliated research projects and also provides service to the broader neuroscience research community in Israel.

GEMM

The National Genetically Engineered Mouse Models (GEMM) Unit was founded by the Israeli Council for Higher Education and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2019. Our unit goal is to support animal model research efforts, to advance genetic and reproductive technologies for model generation and preservation, and to serve as a resource for design, development customized mouse lines.

Research Computing Services

The Hebrew University Research Computing Services (HURCS) provides centralized computation resources to HU members. The services are designed to lower computation costs and energetic footprint, free researchers and academic units from the burden of maintaining independent computational facilities, and provide a centralized platform for large and diverse computations. The services include computation on CPU and GPU nodes, several storage and backup services, as well as basic and high-level technical support. The services are subsidized for HU members, but not free. Billing and auditing are compatible with academic payment systems and recognized by leading funders such as ISF and ERC. Costs and technical information are listed at the HURCS website and Wiki: http://hurcs.cs.huji.ac.il.
